J. Michael Smith, M.D.
Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon
J. Michael Smith, M.D., is a fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive orthopedic procedures, including shoulder, hip, and knee arthroscopy. He also has extensive experience in open shoulder reconstruction and joint replacement procedures of the shoulder, hip, and knee.
Dr. Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and went on to pursue advanced fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. During his fellowship, he served as a team physician for the University of Virginia men's football and basketball teams, including the 2019 NCAA men's basketball national championship team.
"From tagging along with my dad at a young age, I was able to witness firsthand the profound impact that can be made in peoples' lives by thoughtful orthopedic care and surgical decision making," said Dr. Smith. "It is a privilege to be an orthopedic surgeon and to provide this service to the community I grew up in, and I look forward to helping patients throughout the region get back to doing what they love to do."
